In addition all waters in six southeastern counties (Kenosha, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha) and two east-central counties (Shawano and Waupaca), as well as many other individual waters elsewhere in the state, have three walleye/sauger daily limits.
On the Rainy River, anglers are catching a mixed bag of walleye, sauger, smallmouth bass, northern pike and sturgeon.
And more recently the the Winnebago system adopted a three walleye/sauger daily bag limit.
Snowplows pushed ice roads to remarkable new distances last year on Lake of the Woods, accommodating what some observers see as an alarming demand for winter walleye and sauger fishing.
Anglers are finding good numbers of sauger and walleye.
Lake Pepin and the rest of Pool 4 along the Mississippi has long been a popular fishing destination, but fisheries biologists for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources have been talking about a surge in perch, walleye and sauger populations.
Besides a noticeable abundance of walleye, sauger, perch, smallmouth bass and northern pike, anglers benefited from the return of normal water levels and fair weather.
Anglers are finding walleyes and sauger and are also finding panfish in the shallows.
