Adjective
1. (formal) ordinary and not refined;
"he felt contempt for all banausic occupations"
"仅仅机械的"一词于1845年由希腊词 banausikos "与机械有关"创造而来,源自 banausos "工匠,仅仅机械",因此(对于希腊人来说)是"卑贱的,不光彩的"; 有时被认为是字面意思是"通过火工作",来自 baunos "熔炉,锻造"(但 Beekes 认为这是民间词源学,是一个起源不确定的古希腊词语)。
borrowed from Greek banausikós "of an artisan, pedestrian, in bad taste" from bánausos "artisan, craftsman," as an adjective "of an artisan, vulgar" (of uncertain origin) + -ikos -ic >entry 1 Note: According to the Etymologicum Magnum, a Byzantine etymological lexicon compiled about 1150 from much earlier sources, bánausos is dissimilated from *baúnausos, supposedly a compound of baûnos "furnace, forge" and the verb aúō, aúein "to light a fire, set on fire"; this explanation seems fanciful. R. Beekes (Etymological Dictionary of Greek, Brill, 2009) regards the word as of pre-Greek substratal origin. The negative connotations of a word for "artisan" are indicative of Greeks'—or at least Athenians'—low regard for occupations such as blacksmith or potter.
