“信仰的基础”的意思始于14世纪后期; “显而易见”的意思始于1660年代,与 evident 的意义密切相关。法律意义始于约1500年,当时它开始取代 witness。还有“提供证词的人,证人”(1590年代); 因此有 turn (State's) evidence。
